The Sand Lake Management District (SLMD) was established in 2004 to address three primary concerns:
Eurasian Water Milfoil (EWM): This invasive species was discovered in Sand Lake in 2002.
Overall Water Quality: Significant spikes in phosphorus levels have necessitated intervention.
Long-term Integrity of Sand Lake: Ongoing development has increased pressure on the lake’s ecosystem.
The initial Sand Lake Management Plan, developed in 2005, specifically targeted the management of EWM. Since then, SLMD has continued to evolve its strategies to ensure the preservation and enhancement of Sand Lake's ecological health.
